Job description

  • Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA), a TK-8 charter school in operation since 1994, is seeking a dynamic, culturally aware, stimulating, and highly qualified Education Specialist to join our team.
  • JOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER/EDUCATION SPECIALIST (MILD/MODERATE) SCHEDULE: 2026-27 School Year – Full-time WAGE: $66,960 - $94,595 per year, depending on experience This position works with pupils whose needs have been identified in, or are being considered for, an individualized education program (IEP).
  • This position is supervised by the Program Specialist and works directly with school site administrators, general education teachers, and other student services team members.
  • KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: The SPED Teacher/Education Specialist demonstrates knowledge of special education laws, inclusive instructional practices, and evidence-based strategies for supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities.
  • The educator applies principles of differentiated instruction, social-emotional learning, and positive behavior supports to promote student access, engagement, and growth.
  • This role requires strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, general and special education staff, and multidisciplinary teams; and proficiency in special education data systems and instructional technology.
  • The SPED Teacher/Education Specialist values diversity, equity, and inclusion; maintains confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with state and federal requirements; and demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to involving all stakeholders in student success.
  • EXAMPLES OF DUTIES The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

  • Providing specially designed instruction to access grade-level California Content Standards in the Least Restrictive Environment Delivering instruction and targeted supports in one or more of the following domains: academics, communication, gross/fine motor, social-emotional, behavioral, vocational, and learning environment access skills Providing consultation, resource information, and materials to parents and general education staff members.
  • Coordinating special education services with parents, general education staff/teachers, school administrators, and related service providers (school psychologist, speech and language pathologist, community service providers, etc.).

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required: Valid California Special Education Credential – Mild to Moderate Support Needs issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) OR Mild/Moderate with Autism and CLAD authorizations Preferred: Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Willingness to obtain a Bridge authorization if Credential is Mild/Moderate or before.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent: Sitting, Walking, Standing Occasional: Lifting and Carrying Infrequent: Pushing and Pulling Maximum Weights: Lift 25 lbs/Carry 25 lbs Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
