Position Summary

The Instructional Teacher – Non‑Cycle Areas provides high-quality, engaging instruction in specialized content areas that advance student growth and achievement. These roles are essential to elevating our school’s vision that students learn by doing and through experiential learning. Instruction in these areas provides the innovative, hands-on learning opportunities we promise to deliver to students as members of our learning community. Educators in these roles model professional responsibilities aligned with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Five Core Propositions. They often require flexibility and participation in additional duties that are critical to the smooth operation of the school. This role emphasizes the professional and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support instructional planning, differentiation, assessment, and student engagement, while maintaining teacher autonomy, professional judgment, and student-centered learning. Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction aligned with state standards, school curriculum, and experiential learning practices. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students receiving intervention or special education support. Integrate hands-on, project-based, and real-world learning opportunities to promote engagement and understanding. Utilize AI tools responsibly to enhance lesson planning, formative assessment, and instructional design while maintaining ethical standards and teacher decision-making. Professional Standards Alignment (NBPTS Five Core Propositions) Proposition 1: Demonstrate a commitment to students and their learning. Proposition 2: Know the subject matter and how to teach it effectively. Proposition 3: Responsibly manage and monitor student learning using multiple assessment strategies. Proposition 4: Engage in reflective practice to improve teaching effectiveness. Proposition 5: Actively participate in professional learning communities and collaborate with colleagues, families, and community partners. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student learning. Communicate effectively regarding student progress, program expectations, and instructional strategies. School Operations & Flexibility Support daily school operations, school-wide initiatives, and extracurricular activities. Exhibit flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the learning community. Model professional behavior and uphold the school’s values and culture. Professional Growth Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with instructional practices, experiential learning, and school priorities. Stay current with research, pedagogy, and innovations in assigned content areas. Explore emerging educational technologies, including AI, ethically and strategically to enhance teaching and learning. Instructional Areas & Responsibilities (Note: The following roles and responsibilities reflect general expectations for this position and are not all-encompassing. Duties may evolve based on the needs of the school, students, and learning community.) Physical Education (PE) Plan and implement developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum. Promote student health, wellness, and physical fitness. Organize and supervise activities, sports, and fitness assessments. Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social skills. World Languages (American Sign Language, French, Spanish) Deliver instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language(s). Incorporate cultural awareness and global perspectives. Design immersive, experiential activities to engage students in authentic language learning. Assess student proficiency and growth through multiple measures. Technology Teach digital literacy, coding, and technology applications aligned with standards. Integrate technology into cross-curricular projects and experiential learning. Promote responsible, ethical, and safe use of technology. Support problem-solving, creativity, and innovation in students. Visual and Performing Arts (Art, Music, Theater, Dance) Deliver content-rich instruction in assigned arts discipline(s). Plan hands-on, experiential projects and student performances. Foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Organize exhibitions, performances, or showcases to demonstrate student learning. Special Education Deliver individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals and accommodations. Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive learning environments. Monitor progress, collect data, and adjust interventions to meet student needs. Advocate for students and ensure equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities. RTI Instructional Interventionists Provide targeted academic support to students requiring intervention. Collaborate with classroom teachers to monitor progress and adjust instruction. Use data-driven strategies to accelerate student learning. Deliver flexible, small-group, or one-on-one instruction as needed. Other Non-Cycle Instructional Areas Support emerging or interdisciplinary positions that enhance experiential and innovative learning (e.g., STEAM, project-based learning). Design and implement curriculum aligned with school vision and hands-on learning philosophy. Participate in collaborative planning and school-wide initiatives.

Requirements

Certified Teachers: Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant field; master’s preferred. Appropriate South Carolina state certification/licensure for assigned content area(s). Non-Certified Teachers: Bachelor’s degree or higher in the subject area or related field. For co-curricular or specialized content areas, candidates with a degree in the subject are preferred; at a minimum, 36 semester hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction is required. Must successfully complete a background check after the offer is accepted. All Candidates: Demonstrated proficiency or experience in assigned instructional area(s). Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively and adapt to a dynamic school environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in charter or similar schools. Experience implementing RTI, project-based, or experiential learning approaches. Engagement in standards-based instructional development or assessment design. National Board Certification in a relevant area (preferred but not required). Working Conditions Standard school environment with regular classroom assignments. Frequent interaction with students, staff, and families. Occasional evening or weekend participation in school events or professional development. May require lifting, moving instructional materials, and supporting hands-on activities.
