About the role

The On-Site Substitute Teacher provides a high-quality, personalized education program using the Aspire approach when the regular teacher is absent, filling in for any needed position at the assigned school site. Responsibilities include establishing a culture of high expectations, developing and implementing standards-aligned lessons, assessing students, and communicating with families.

This is an interim, full-time benefited Substitute Teacher position at Aspire Capitol Heights Academy in Sacramento, CA.

This position will be from March 2026 to June 2026.

The On-Site Substitute Teacher provides a high quality, personalized education program for students using the Aspire approach, in classrooms when the regular classroom teacher is not available.

The On-Site Sub works at one specific school site and is considered to be a “constant” in terms of the staff at their school site and fills in for any position at the school site that is needed on a daily basis.

What You Will Do

Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards and Aspire Instructional Guidelines Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school Actively participate in professional development activities, and work closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches

Will

Bring: Bachelor’s degree Valid California Teaching Credential or Sub Permit required 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred Knowledge of subject matter, including State Standards and subject-specific frameworks Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices

Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and a valid California Teaching Credential or Sub Permit to fulfill this interim, full-time role. Preferred qualifications include over one year of experience working with students in a teaching capacity.
