Your Role as an Experienced Assistant Teacher As an Assistant Teacher, you’ll work closely with Lead Teachers to deliver a nurturing, safe, and educational classroom environment for infants and/or toddlers. You’ll help implement play-based learning activities, manage classroom routines, and provide individualized attention that supports each child’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Key Responsibilities
- Support daily routines including circle time, story time, snack, outdoor play, and rest time
- Assist with lesson planning and curriculum implementation based on children’s developmental needs and interests
- Supervise children during classroom transitions, group play, and hands-on activities
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment aligned with state licensing regulations
- Encourage independence, self-help skills, and social interaction through positive guidance strategies
- Observe and document children’s behavior and milestones for communication with families and the teaching team
- Provide age-appropriate support for infants or toddlers depending on assigned classroom
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a supportive, inclusive early childhood learning environment
Qualifications
- Previous experience in child care, preschool, daycare, or toddler education
- Understanding of child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP)
- Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic about working with young children
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Ability to multitask, follow classroom structure, and adapt to children’s needs
- High school diploma or GED required
- Family Communication & School Collaboration
- Maintain open communication with families through daily updates, progress reports, and scheduled conferences
- Support and attend family engagement events, parent education sessions, and school celebrations
- Collaborate with school administrators and fellow teachers to ensure alignment with school goals and state licensing standards
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months of classroom experience in a licensed preschool or early childhood center
- Proven ability to lead classroom activities and routines with confidence and consistency
- Strong knowledge of child development, learning domains, and early intervention best practices
- Effective communication skills with children, families, and co-workers
- A love for young children and a commitment to their growth and well-being
- Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with curriculum models such as Reggio Emilia or Montessori is preferred, as our proprietary curriculum incorporates elements from both approaches.
- Knowledge of state child care licensing regulations and quality standards
- Background in inclusive education, sensory integration, or differentiated instruction is a plus
