- GENERAL PURPOSE The Member Engagement Specialist – Mountain Communities is a highly independent, community-based role responsible for growing, sustaining, and strengthening Girl Scout membership in geographically remote and rural mountain regions.
- This position serves as the primary representative of Girl Scouts of Colorado in assigned communities and requires a self-starter who is comfortable working autonomously, building relationships from the ground up, and managing a wide range of responsibilities.
- This role blends program delivery, membership recruitment, volunteer support, and community partnership development into one position.
- Success depends on the ability to adapt to the unique realities of mountain communities, including distance from council offices, limited local resources, weather-related challenges, and the need for creative problem-solving.
- The Specialist must be able to exercise sound judgment independently while staying aligned with council strategy, policies, and values.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Membership Growth & Recruitment
- Serve as the primary member recruitment lead for assigned mountain and rural communities.
- Achieve membership growth goals by implementing member recruitment and lead generation strategies tailored specifically to small, rural, and geographically dispersed populations.
- Plan and execute member recruitment activities in schools, community centers, libraries, faith-based organizations, local events, and other nontraditional settings.
- Use program-based recruitment strategies to introduce families to Girl Scouts through hands-on experiences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with school administrators, educators, and community leaders to create sustainable member recruitment pipelines.
- Program Delivery & Implementation
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Girl Scout programs in mountain communities, including school-based, community-based, and pop-up programs.
- Independently manage program logistics, including scheduling, materials, site coordination, travel planning, and participant communication.
- Adapt curriculum and delivery methods to meet the needs of rural communities while maintaining program quality and safety standards.
- Serve as the on-site facilitator for programs when volunteers are unavailable or capacity is limited.
- Volunteer Recruitment, Support & Retention
- Recruit, onboard, and support volunteers in communities with limited local infrastructure or council presence.
- Provide proactive, ongoing coaching and problem-solving support to volunteers, often remotely or with limited in-person contact.
- Partner with Service Unit volunteers to strengthen local volunteer networks and leadership capacity.
- Support troop leaders and caregivers with annual membership renewal, engagement strategies, and resource navigation.
- Identify volunteer challenges early and collaborate with the Volunteer Relations team to address concerns and conflicts.
- Community Presence & Relationship Building
- Act as a consistent, trusted, and visible representative of Girl Scouts of Colorado in mountain communities.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with families, volunteers, schools, and community partners.
- Navigate cultural, logistical, and geographic barriers unique to rural and mountain communities with sensitivity and creativity.
- Represent Girl Scouts at community events, meetings, and outreach opportunities.
- Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely records of recruitment efforts, program delivery, volunteer support, and community outreach activities.
- Track participation data and outcomes using council systems (Salesforce preferred).
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and cross-functional teams despite working remotely and independently.
- Manage time, travel, and workload independently while meeting deadlines and performance goals.
- Organizational & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Recruitment team to align outreach strategies and leverage data insights.
- Partner with the Volunteer Success team to ensure seamless onboarding and support for first-year volunteers.
- Work closely with the Girl Experience team to connect members to council and partner-led programs.
- Support Product Program participation by promoting engagement and assisting volunteers and families.

- JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or Formal Training
- No formal education or training requirements.
- Experience
- Experience in volunteer management, membership development, recruitment, retention, community engagement, or account management preferred.
- Demonstrated success working independently in community-based or remote roles.
- Experience setting ambitious goals and driving results, including lead management and member conversion.
- Experience using customer relationship management systems (Salesforce preferred).
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking and relationship-building.
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision and exercise sound judgment.
- Highly organized, resourceful, and adaptable in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort wearing multiple hats.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technologies quickly.

- Additional requirements
- Ability to pass a criminal background check acceptable to GSCO standards.
- Access to reliable transportation with required insurance and willingness to travel extensively within mountain and rural regions.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight stays.
- Ability to transport program materials weighing up to 30 pounds and prepare meeting spaces independently.
