THE ROLE

Middle School Certified Special Education Teachers at Meeting Street Schools are strong teachers who deliver targeted, purposeful, differentiated instruction to students who need support with accessing grade-level materials. Support for students will range across grade levels and content areas. Student achievement will be measured through progress monitoring against grade-level standards; thus, teacher success will be measured by student achievement. By providing individualized academic support, Special Education Teachers play a pivotal role in ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Applies deep content and pedagogical knowledge to move students closer to grade-level proficiency
  • Creates engaging, rigorous lesson plans
  • Implements robust, outcome-based intervention plans that sequence and scaffold learning to maximize student access to grade-level standards
  • Leverages the collective understandings of the multidisciplinary/MTSS team to increase student outcomes
  • Uses data from student work, assessments, and observations to refine interventions and support
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor

  • Educational Background and Work Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • A South Carolina Special Education Certification is required
  • A minimum of two years of homeroom teaching experience
  • Strong instructional skills, demonstrated through proven academic outcomes as a classroom teacher
  • Experience and/or certification in Orton-Gillingham instructional methods is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

  • The starting salary for the Middle School Certified Special Education Teacher is $69,000, and is commensurate with experience. Additionally, Meeting Street Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to:
