The Middle School Humanities ICT Specialist is responsible for leading an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom, ensuring that students with disabilities receive appropriate support as outlined in their IEPs. This includes collaborating with general education teachers, monitoring student progress, and implementing specially designed instruction.

Position Overview The primary responsibility of a Middle School Humanities Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) Specialist is to cultivate and lead a learning environment where every child feels safe and confident to strive for and meet Brilla’s ambitious targets. The Middle School Humanities ICT Specialist understands, plans, and executes key elements of innovative pedagogy, co-teaching practices, and data-based decision-making through a deep love of learning and commitment to internalizing and teaching rigorous classical content in an inspiring and culturally relevant way. This position requires a classically-minded, positive, flexible, solutions-oriented, organized, and innovative educator who aims to challenge the status quo of the current educational landscape in urban areas. Brilla teachers must have a deep passion for student-engaged learning, a desire to accept, implement, and seek feedback, and a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities while inspiring outstanding achievement in children in a fun and collaborative work environment, serving specific grade levels as assigned.

Core Competencies & Responsibilities

Serve as the special education teacher in an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom, ensuring delivery of the ICT mandate as written on students’ IEPs in alignment with NYSED requirements

Collaboratively plan with the general education teacher using academic and behavioral data to design instruction that embeds SDI aligned to IEP goals while ensuring students can access grade-level Humanities curriculum and standards.

Collaboratively plan with the general education teacher using academic and behavioral data to design instruction that embeds Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) aligned to IEP goals while ensuring students can access grade-level STEM curriculum and standards.

Co-teach using a variety of co-teaching models intentionally selected to maximize student access to grade-level content

Demonstrate deep knowledge of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) through clear, objective-driven instruction and active student engagement, and provide SDI tailored to meet the unique needs of each student with disabilities

Serve as the case manager for assigned ICT students, including writing Present Levels of Academic and Functional Performance (PLOPs), teacher reports, and facilitating IEP meetings with the Committee on Special Education

Progress monitor and document student progress toward academic IEP goals at required intervals and complete accurate IEP Progress Reports

Use progress monitoring data to inform the revision and development of IEP goals, ensuring goals remain responsive to student growth and instructional needs

Implement proactive behavior supports and environmental structures aligned to students’ IEP needs to maintain access to instruction

Collaborate with colleagues to improve outcomes for students with disabilities and contribute to an inclusive learning environment across the school community

Participate in school and community events to build strong relationships with colleagues and families and contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture

Participate in special education and content-specific professional development, grade team meetings, and school-based initiatives to continuously strengthen instructional practice

Participate in MTSS meetings to analyze student data, contribute insights, and support the development of targeted interventions and instructional adjustments

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution (preferably in the Liberal Arts, Philosophy, or Classics-related field)
  • Active New York State teaching certification in Students with Disabilities or currently enrolled in an NYSED-approved program leading to special education certification required.
  • Relevant urban, middle school teaching experience with demonstrated student results (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using SESIS to manage IEP documentation (strongly preferred)
  • Spanish language proficiency (preferred)

The base pay range for this position is $71,020 - $115,479 per year, with pay varying based on your unique job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You'll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including medical, financial, and more. Plus, as an extra incentive, candidates who begin employment on or before September 1, 2026, are eligible for a $4,000 signing bonus paid in two installments over the course of their first year of employment.
