Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job summary

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher supports the educational mission of Holy Cross Academy by assuming instructional responsibilities in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role is responsible for delivering lesson plans, maintaining a structured and engaging learning environment, and ensuring continuity in student learning and classroom routines. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher fosters a safe, respectful, and faith-centered classroom while supporting the academic and personal growth of all students.

This position is a temporary assignment from early September through early December, covering a maternity leave, and is scheduled for three days per week.

  • Deliver daily instruction based on provided lesson plans and adapt instruction as needed to meet student learning needs.
  • Maintain a structured, organized, and positive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and respect.
  • Manage classroom behavior in alignment with school policies and expectations.
  • Provide whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction to support diverse learners.
  • Assess student understanding through assignments, observations, and informal assessments, and provide feedback as appropriate.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
  • Prepare instructional materials and maintain classroom organization and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom needs.
  • Uphold the routines, procedures, and expectations established by the school and regular classroom teacher.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; teaching certification preferred.
  • Prior teaching or classroom experience, preferably in an elementary school setting.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans while demonstrating flexibility and initiative when needed.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, student-centered learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
