Children’s Education Coordinator Assistant

About the program

RHD Resiliency Manor for Families provides emergency housing services for single women with children. During their stay, families focus on securing permanent housing, employment, health, community involvement, and education. The primary goal of the program is to help residents obtain permanent housing within a short period of time while supporting family stability and child development.

Position Summary

The Children’s Education Coordinator Assistant helps create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children living in the shelter. This role supports the Children’s Education Coordinator by facilitating activities, supervising children, maintaining youth program spaces, and supporting family programming.

The position works as part of the administrative and supervisory team at Resiliency Manor for Families and must operate in accordance with Philadelphia’s Office of Supportive Housing (OSH) standards and RHD values.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized youth spaces including Bright Spaces, Kidz Zone, Computer Lab, and Art Room
  • Monitor the Computer Lab during scheduled hours
  • Plan and facilitate educational, recreational, and arts & crafts activities
  • Supervise children and support positive play and learning experiences
  • Administer the Ages & Stages Questionnaire for children ages 3–5
  • Ensure documentation of services and activities is completed accurately
  • Support parents by modeling appropriate parenting techniques
  • Assist with organizing and distributing donations
  • Maintain organization of donation rooms and office areas
  • Assist with set-up, clean-up, and distribution of items during special events
  • Communicate professionally with donors, volunteers, and class facilitators
  • Monitor children during parenting classes (two evenings per week)
  • Support summer camp activities
  • Assist with shopping and pick-ups for program events
  • Drive a company vehicle as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children (birth–15 years old) required
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Training or experience in child development and parenting techniques
  • Knowledge of behavioral health preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literacy required

Requirements

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving history
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles (up to 15 passenger vehicles)
  • Child Abuse Clearance and applicable background checks required
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
  • Ability to work two evenings per week and flexible hours during the holiday season

This position works within a family shelter environment supporting women and children experiencing housing instability. The role requires patience, flexibility, and a calm, supportive approach when working with families facing complex challenges.
