Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, America Reads/Counts STATUS: Part time DEPARTMENT: Financial Aid DIVISION: Student Development REPORTS TO: Candice Todd CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $16.00 per hour (Position is FWS ONLY) POSITION SUMMARY The America Reads/ America Counts program is offered to Federal Work Study eligible students who are interested in tutoring elementary and middle school children in various levels of Reading and Mathematics. Students are tutored at a designated site off campus. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Tutor elementary and middle school aged students in Reading and Math. 2. Travel to local elementary schools, local libraries, or other local off campus facility. 3. Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Must be eligible for federal work-study 2. GPA of 2.5 or above 3. Enrolled in 6 credit hours toward your declared major at JJC 4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence. 5. Enjoys working with children 6. Reliable transportation/possess valid driver’s license 7. Must attend a training session PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency. 2. Demonstrated multicultural competence. Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
