The Role

As a Physical Therapist in our Children’s Day Program, you will be a vital component of a robust interdisciplinary team that is driven to ensure the most optimal outcomes for the students that DDI supports. Our Physical Therapists are responsible for providing all aspects of Physical Therapy services to your assigned caseload. This includes providing direct services, screenings, assessments and evaluations and completing all required documentation.

What You Bring To DDI

  • Licensed in physical therapy by NYSED with current registration
  • Bachelor's Degree in physical therapy from accredited university or college
  • Experience treating children with I/DD preferred.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate, assess, or screen clients using appropriate standardized testing and clinical observational skills
  • Provide physical therapy services according to mandated paperwork (i.e. IEP’s, IFSP, etc.)
  • Provide required documentation for services that your program and/or supervisor have outlined for you.
  • Maintain documentation in a professional, efficient, accountable, and confidential manner.
  • Attend all meetings as scheduled and collaborate with other professionals, staff and families.
  • Maintain and update professional knowledge, skills and abilities through continuing education, in-service training or higher education.
  • Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic, orthotic and adaptive equipment devices.
  • Consult with equipment technicians, physicians or others related to the clients needs
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Must Be Able To Do

  • Modify the area to secure the safety of the children i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Lift/Move 20 lbs (mats).
  • Run after a student up to 500 feet.
  • Kneel, twist and bend.
  • Respond to fire alarms.
