Substitute school nurse: Part-Time, As Needed
Job summary
The Substitute School Nurse fills in for the school nurse when they are absent or are providing care to students and staff or teaching. The Sub Nurse serves a pivotal role that bridges health care and education, and will manage and coordinate many responsibilities in order to ensure the well-being of our community. The nurse reports to the Director of WELLBEING and works in close partnership with the Head of School, Division Heads, student support team, staffulty, the Medical Reserve Corps Student team, students’ health care providers, students, and families to promote health and wellness at Bosque School.
Responsibilities
- Assess and treat students and staffulty’s health needs. This includes providing first aid for injuries, assessing the need for further medical attention, and administering medications per the physician's or OTC orders.
- Provide critical care services to medically fragile students as assigned.
- Ensure accurate and maintain current student health care records through August Schools and/or Blackbaud.
- Provide guidance, education, and counseling in the area of health to students and staffulty according to professional standards.
- Communicates and collaborates with staffulty, parents, and healthcare providers to address student health needs.
- Adherence to school policies and procedures.
- Communicate with the School Nurse about concerns and students' needs if necessary.
Collaboration & personnel
• Work closely with Bosque School Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) [https://www.bosqueschool.org/academics/differentiators/medical-reserve-corp] and the MRC Adult Leadership (including the program coordinator, physician medical director(s), consulting pharmacist and volunteers) to assist in the management, oversight and education/training of students in the MRC program, with a focus on overseeing student providers in engaging with hands-on patient care experience including charting. In addition, collaborate to adapt existing and create new policies and procedures related to patient care, HIPAA, FERPA, and MRC.

- Remain current on relevant trends in school nursing and student health and wellness and seek ongoing professional development, and develop a school nursing network of professional peers.
- Attend Staffulty meetings and professional development opportunities deemed necessary by supervisor.

Qualifications

- Ability to work Monday through Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm as needed when the School Nurse and/or Nurse Assistant is on leave and coverage in the Nurse’s Office is required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Licensed Registered Nurse, New Mexico
- BLS/AED Certifications
- 3-5 years of professional nursing experience (school nursing and/or pediatric nursing preferred)
- Able to make quick decisions, take initiative, be highly flexible, and prioritize tasks
