Position Summary

The adjunct faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality courses that support the institution’s mission and strategic goals. Teaching assignments are offered on an as-needed basis, depending on class size and semester availability. This role requires active engagement in the classroom, timely communication, and completion of assigned teaching training modules and tasks.

This is an onsite position in Minnesota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses aligned with the institution’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Maintain a consistent, active and positive presence in the classroom, facilitating course content and engaging with students.
  • Monitor and participate in class discussions to promote interaction and learning.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries and concerns, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback in a timely manner; complete required teaching training modules.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Masters degree in Theology, Classical Studies, Classical Education, Liberal Arts, Divinity, or related field.
  • Familiarity with the Great Books tradition and the philosophy and methodology of classical education.
  • Demonstrated experience articulating a Christian understanding of reality and its bearing on diverse fields of knowledge.
  • A commitment to student spiritual formation through personal mentorship.
  • Minimum 2 years of instructional experience in Socratic-style, discussion-oriented, seminar-format
  • Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community. Nice to have:
  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) with a Biblical Studies, Theology, Literature, or Philosophy emphasis.
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, or in non-academic settings.
