Summary of Position
Life Skills Training is a direct service provided in home and community settings to assist students in acquiring, maintaining, and improving the skills necessary to live in the community, to live more independently, and to participate meaningfully in community life. Life Skills Trainers will support and guide participants in the general areas of self-care, health maintenance, decision-making, home management, managing personal resources, communication, mobility and transportation, relationship development and socialization, personal adjustment, participant in community functions and activities and use of community resources. Guidance and support, as typical in discrete trial learning will consist of physical assistance, instruction, prompting, modeling and positive reinforcement.
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent with paid experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Experience working with youth, families, and young adults.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of community resources
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience using an electronic health record (EHR) system is a plus.
- Position requires reliable insured transportation, current auto insurance coverage, and valid driver’s license.
- Bilingual (Spanish) speaking candidates are a plus.
