About the role

The assistant coach provides competitive swimming instruction to various age groups and organizes and conducts team workouts. Responsibilities also include performing assigned coaching duties such as recruiting, record-keeping, scheduling, and overseeing team conduct at events.

Job Summary *This is an on-site position Provides competitive swimming instructions to swim team members in Age group, Senior, or Masters programs.

Organizes and conducts team workouts.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned coaching responsibilities, which may include practices, recruiting, record-keeping, and scheduling.
  • Recruits prospective members and provides information about YMCA membership and swim team fee structure.
  • Attends all staff meetings, and trainings as required.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Assists with overseeing conduct of swim team members at meets and other team functions.
  • Attends swim meets and swim team functions as agreed upon with supervisor.
  • Maintains effective communication with participants and their parents.
  • Code of Conduct for Applicants All employees and volunteers are responsible for adhering to abuse prevention policies, maintaining appropriate boundaries, completing required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and complying with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff are properly screened, trained, supervised and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.

Qualifications

  • 16 or more years of age. 1 year or more of swim team experience preferred. Other applicable education, traning, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform efectively in the position will be considered. Current lifeguard and swim instructor certification from a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross, YMCA).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification.
  • American Red Cross Coaches Safety Training or equivalent.
  • Ability to teach proper competative swimming techniques. Knowledge of sound competitive swimming skills, and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy, manner. Knowledge of basic exercise. *Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Requirements

Candidates must be at least 16 years old, and while one year of swim team experience is preferred, other relevant training will be considered. Required certifications include current lifeguard, swim instructor, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications, or the ability to obtain them within 30 days of hire.
