Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work from an accredited college or university, as required by the state of Virginia
  • Associate, assistant, resident, or supervisee-level licensure or certification in counseling, social work, or addiction services, as required by state regulations
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in substance use treatment, mental health services, or a related field
  • Residents/Supervisees may include:
  • Resident in Counseling
  • Resident in Social Work
  • Supervisee in Clinical Social Work
  • Resident Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the clinical team in patient care decisions and attend all clinical meetings
  • Assess patient counseling needs and conduct comprehensive substance use evaluations utilizing ASAM criteria and biopsychosocial assessments
  • Obtain and review relevant prior treatment records
  • Develop and implement the counseling components of individualized treatment plans
  • Provide substance use counseling services as outlined in treatment plans
  • Reassess patients and update treatment plans as clinically indicated
  • Develop discharge plans and continuum-of-care recommendations
  • Participate fully as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Facilitate crisis intervention using a collaborative, team-based approach
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all counseling services, assessments, referrals, and follow-ups
  • Manage assigned caseloads, including case management, utilization reviews, and clinical charting
  • Coordinate support services for patients and families and document all services provided
  • Facilitate family therapy sessions as assigned
  • Communicate and coordinate with referral sources (legal, school, employer, etc.)
  • Attend required meetings, complete mandatory training, and support administrative functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
