About the role

The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, effective, and fun class environment for participants of various fitness levels, which includes coaching, motivating, and educating on correct form. Essential duties also involve teaching assigned classes on time, preparing and restoring the fitness studio, attending required staff meetings, and maintaining necessary certifications.

Description Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt.

Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services.

With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community.

District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming.

The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.

We are currently searching for part-time, Group Fitness Instructors.

The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, effective class for a variety of fitness levels.

Candidates must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

The target starting pay range is $25-$27 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Plus District employees receive facility privileges.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Provide a safe, effective and fun environment for participants.

Coach and motivate participants.

Educate class participants on correct form and alternate moves during class.

Teach assigned classes on time and take ownership for covering classes with an appropriate substitute when absent.

Prepare fitness studio for class and restore space to its original state after teaching.

Attend staff meetings as required.

Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's) and maintain certification(s).

Be familiar with Park District policies and procedures and develop the ability to make decisions within Park District regulations.

Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours will be required.

Secondary duties

Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Fitness Supervisor, Recreation Division Manager, Director of Recreation and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency perform all duties as required.

Qualifications

Current group exercise instructor certification from AFAA, ACE or other nationally accredited organization required.

CPR/AED certification required.

Teaching experience is preferred.

Must be customer service oriented, have a pleasant demeanor and cooperative attitude.

Must possess a high level of energy, social skills, and enthusiasm.

Must be reliable and display consistent attendance and work ethic. Must be punctual and professional.

Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for coordination of work, safety and in emergency situations as needed.

Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly. Must demonstrate good judgment and discretion.

Must be able to abide by Park District policies and procedures.

This position involves standing, squatting, kneeling, crouching, balancing and lifting. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds. Must be able to use hands for coordination of work, safety and handling of equipment. Must be able to move freely throughout the facility.

Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Group Fitness Instructor position.
