Job Description

Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Principal, the school psychologist delivers school-based, psycho-educational services that improve student performance, enhance student educational success, and promote the mental health interests of children and youth. The school psychologist will provide services to both general and special education students. Broad-based services include consultation, support for interventions, assessment, testing, and evaluation, professional development, prosocial group work, and school improvement activities. The school psychologist is expected to adhere to applicable federal and state laws and regulations (i.e., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Individual with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), Nevada Administrative Code (NAC), and Section 504. The school psychologist will be expected to adhere to Amplus Academy’s professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards. Amplus Academy is a classical education charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas. Amplus Academy has two campuses serving Kindergarten- 12th grade students. The two campuses are located less than 2 miles from one another. Terms of Employment: 10-month per Contract of Employment (179 Day Calendar) Salary: The compensation for this position is in alignment with the Amplus Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; Salary Schedule based on years’ experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.

Salary Range

$58,350- $80,000 with 100% Employer Paid PERS Duties/Responsibilities: The list of Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. Uses consultation and collaborative problem solving with school personnel and parents to address student learning, behavior, mental health, and social issues. Assists parents with referring the student to appropriate community agencies, when needed. Works directly with students, educators, and parents in a systematic process of intervention assistance and short-term support services that may focus on academic or behavioral interventions and supports, learning strategies, counseling services, social skills instruction, and other targeted services for support of instruction and intervention. Assists with school-based Response to Instruction (RTI) Team operations, including the development of individualized intervention plans for at-risk students and support for implementation of curriculum-based measurement (CBM) practices for universal screening and progress monitoring. Conducts assessments and evaluations in conjunction with teachers, parents, and other related services personnel in relation to student academic performance and achievement, student progress, learning aptitude, social/emotional development, adaptive functioning, and other relevant domains. Uses eligibility standards (IDEA, NAC; Section 504), Department procedures, and a variety of assessment techniques to assist the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in determining student eligibility for special education services or student need for reasonable accommodations. Writes comprehensive MDT Evaluation Reports following Department standards. Assists the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team, as needed, in developing appropriate services for identified special education students. Assists the MDT Team, as needed, in developing reasonable accommodations for identified Section 504 students. Promotes and advances mental health issues relevant to students and families. When directed, actively supports the functioning of the school-based student support team to include training and support for implementation of the Suicide Intervention Protocol, Legal 2000 procedures, transition supports for students returning to school from hospitalization, and mental health screenings, as needed. Serves in additional capacities, such as conducting professional development activities for school staff members regarding best practices and supporting school improvement activities. Actively promotes and supports department initiatives associated with the Amplus Academy RTI Framework including, but not limited to: the monitoring of disproportionality in special education, development of school wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and implementation of the RTI processes (both academically and behaviorally). Participates in other job-related duties and activities related to the position, as assigned, including student supervision discussions. Travel between campuses to address student needs as scheduled with Exceptional Student Services (ESS=SPED) department Coordinators. QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities: Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education, school psychology and related fields Desire to assist K-12 school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status and individual needs Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Creative analytical and problem-solving skills Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and related testing software Education and Experience: Master’s degree in school psychology, or similar field Nevada License with School Psychologist Endorsement required Prior school psychologist experience (2 years+) preferred
