About the role

The Personal Trainer assists health seekers in improving personal fitness through safe and effective exercises aligned with the YMCA's mission. This involves establishing and developing individual fitness plans incorporating various exercise components based on client goals.

The YMCA of the Roses is seeking an enthusiastic Personal Trainer to join our team at the Bob Hoffman Dover YMCA! This part-time role offers a flexible schedule of 5–15 hours per week and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on member health and wellness.

We're looking for a motivated fitness professional who is passionate about helping others reach their goals through personalized training, encouragement, and support. Responsibilities include developing individualized workout plans, providing safe and effective instruction, and building positive relationships with members to create an engaging fitness experience.

Position summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As a Certified Personal Trainer, your goal is to assist health seekers improve personal fitness through safe and effective exercises provided in a manner that accomplishes the YMCA of the Roses mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Enhances YMCA of the Roses membership by demonstrating the Y core values while establishing safe, effective individual fitness plans for health seekers.
  • 2.
  • Develops safe and effective exercise programs based upon client goals, incorporating cardio respiratory, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, agility, balance and coordination exercises into the program.
  • 3.
  • Maintains knowledge of science-based exercise trends and incorporates new techniques safely into exercise programs.
  • 4.
  • Works within scope of practice.
  • 5.
  • Is knowledgeable of and promotes YMCA virtual and on site programs to members.
  • 6.
  • Wears appropriate and approved fitness attire, therefore being easily identifiable by members; a Y name tag and Y staff shirt is provided.
  • 1.
  • Applies YMCA of the Roses policy/procedures for emergency situations, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • 2.
  • Serves as a role model for other staff members by demonstrating exemplary job skills and behavior.
  • 3.
  • Attends required staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications.
  • 4.
  • Maintains certification by attending CEC classes and submitting required updated paperwork to the YMCA of the USA and the YMCA of the Roses.

1. Completes additional duties as assigned by the Wellness Coordinator/Director.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Obtain CPR PRO/AED/First Aid certification within 3 months of hire
  • Personal Training certification from a national organization (ACSM, ACE, etc) or degree or certification from a technical institute or college
  • Complete the following within 1 month of hire:
  • Living Our Cause
  • Cause Driven Tour
  • Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y
  • Wellness Center at the Y training
  • Complete the following within 3 months of hire:
  • Foundations of Listen First
  • Principles of Member Health and Wellness
  • Foundations of Strength and Conditioning
  • Has the ability to work with a variety of populations such as athletes, older adults, cardiac rehab patients, teens, etc.

Work environment & physical demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Ability to instruct and observe health seekers with proper form and technique.

Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly and 45 pounds of force occasionally.

Ability to Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift grasp, talk, make repetitive motions, see and hear.

Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and preferably have a high school diploma or equivalent. Essential qualifications include obtaining CPR PRO/AED/First Aid certification within three months and holding a national Personal Training certification.
