They are responsible for creating a safe and engaging learning environment before, during, and after lessons while effectively communicating with management and parents. Instructors must come prepared, teach required skills enthusiastically, and monitor participant progress. They may lead group, private, or semi-private lessons. Additionally, Swim Instructors assist with maintaining cleanliness in and around the pool before and after lessons. This rewarding position makes a lasting impact by helping swimmers build confidence and essential water skills.

- Functions and
- Responsibilities: Swim Lesson Instructor Instruct swim classes in accordance with the Park District’s instructional swimming program. Maintain an ongoing evaluation of each student throughout the session, including attendance and issue a report card when completed. Ability to take and apply feedback from members on programs, performance, and teachers. Work set schedules, including at least one full weekend session, evening sessions, and be available in case of an emergency. Able to work all days of the scheduled sessions and if unable, secures a substitute for the day missed. Maintain a safe pool environment which includes knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, action plan, and class management. Must attend various trainings and in-services to maintain and progress teaching skills. Performs other duties as assigned. Deck Supervisor Swim Lesson Instructors once fully trained could be directed to oversee the swim lesson sessions by leading the instructors in the daily operations on deck. Supervise the training schedule of the staff. A minimum of one in-service biweekly is recommended, serving as the In-Service Trainer to the Swim Lesson Instructors.

- Qualifications: Applicants must be 16 years of age or older in compliance with Illinois Child Labor Laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Have knowledge of water safety practices and usage of water safety equipment. Ability to create a safe and fun aquatic environment for all staff and participants. CPR/AED/First Aid certified within 90 days of hire.
