Position Summary

The Bike Coach evaluates, designs, coordinates, and delivers a comprehensive range of training and education programs in downhill mountain biking and, under limited supervision, conducts integrated training needs assessments.

Essential duties and responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following

  • Delivers group and individual instruction and training covering a range of technical downhill mountain biking skills to guests of all ages.
  • Formulates training outlines and determines instructional methods utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and effectiveness of such methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, meetings, and workshops.
  • Performs as professional instructor as well as host and guide and as safety conscious employee-minimizing the risk to injury.
  • Coordinates administrative functions necessary to deliver and document training programs.
  • Leads and trains staff who are performing related work
  • Attends ongoing training to keep up to date with contemporary concepts and progressions, striving to improve teaching and riding techniques.
  • Participates in the recruitment of volunteers as appropriate.
  • Work as a team with all departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of Expert/Intermediate Mountain Bike riding skills
  • PMBIA or equivalent Certification is preferred.
  • Prior Mountain Bike Guiding, Instruction, Coaching, or Other Teaching Experiences are preferred.
  • Knowledge of implementation and facilitation of technical and/or specialty training events and programs.
  • Teaching and facilitation skills
  • Ability to assess training needs and objectives
  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate responsive programs and initiatives.
  • Able to Mountain Bike for extended periods of time, requiring lifting, bending, and twisting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
