About the role

The After Care Teacher is responsible for assisting with indoor and outdoor projects, games, play, and ensuring the general safety and supervision of Preschool and/or Lower School students aged 5-7 daily between 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Key duties include establishing a safe environment, facilitating engaging activities, supporting daytime learning extensions, and maintaining cleanliness.

Description Established in 1972, Mount Vernon School serves over 1,250 students in Preschool through Grade 12 on our 40-acre Atlanta campus. The Team The Extended Play Team is the faculty support group that manages all after-school programming and facilitates high-quality play and robust learning engagement in the afternoons for Pre-K2 (Age 2) through Grade 5 (Grade 5).

The Role The After Care Teacher is responsible for assisting with indoor and outdoor projects, projects, games, play, and general safety/supervision of Preschool and/or Lower School students (ages 5-7) between the hours of 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm daily. Work occurs on the premises at Mount Vernon’s Lower Campus. This is a 10-month, school-year role.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment Supervise children by sight and sound at all times Facilitate interactive activities to engage students throughout the afternoon Support the extension of daytime learning by liaising with the classroom teaching team Maintain necessary housekeeping duties of the classrooms, common use areas, and playgrounds Attend all required staff meetings, professional learning experiences, and/or related school functions (2 per month on average) Facilitate Faculty Kids Camps in the two weeks prior to the start of school, the week following the end of school and other days throughout the school year.
