About the role

The Seasonal Coach assists with planning and leading organized practices and athletic events, teaching sport-specific skills and demonstrating proper techniques. This role supports athlete training, development, coaching, and mentoring while meeting regularly with the Head Coach to support overall program direction.

Summary

The Seasonal Coach advances Principia by supporting the management and delivery of Upper and Middle School athletic programs while fostering character development, sportsmanship, and care for each student-athlete. Reporting to the Athletic Director, this role collaborates closely with fellow coaches, students, and families to create a positive, disciplined, and engaging athletic experience aligned with Principia’s values.

This position plays an essential role in team practices, competitions, and program operations across a variety of sports, contributing to a well-rounded athletic program that supports students’ physical growth, teamwork, and leadership development.

Seasonal Coaches may support one or more of the following programs

Upper School • Fall

  • Boys Soccer, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Drumline, Field Hockey, Football, Girls Tennis, Girls Volleyball
  • Winter: Basketball, Boys & Girls Wrestling, Swimming
  • Spring: Baseball, Boys Tennis, Girls Soccer, Track & Field

Middle School • Fall

  • Co-ed Cross Country, Field Hockey, Co-ed Flag Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Tennis, Girls Volleyball
  • Winter: Basketball, Co-ed Swimming, Co-ed Cheer, Co-ed Wrestling
  • Spring: Baseball, Co-ed Drumline, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis, Co-ed Track & Field

Minimum Qualifications

  • Student of Christian Science preferred

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Group coaching, teaching, and/or instructing experience
  • Ability to be present for all required practices, competitions, and program-related events during the season
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification (training provided by Principia)
  • Willingness to complete required MSHSAA Coaching Principles courses and seasonal online rules meetings (for non-faculty coaches)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and operate Principia school buses as needed (training provided by Principia)

Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and have prior group coaching, teaching, or instructing experience, while being supportive of the institution's guiding statements. Minimum requirements also include the ability to attend all required events, obtain CPR certification, and potentially obtain a CDL for bus operation.
