Job description

  • The intern is working toward obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Counseling at an accredited university.
  • Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch seeks to partner with students to provide internship hours and field instruction necessary to complete their degree. ​ The purpose of the field work program is to provide a practical, service-oriented experience in which the student’s knowledge and skills can be demonstrated and applied, enhanced and appraised.
  • As such, the intern will shadow an assigned mentor from the counseling department who is responsible for the provision of case management/counseling services to the residents of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch.
  • The intern will shadow an assigned counselor who acts as liaison between residents, families, and outside agencies and provides crisis intervention for residents.
  • Job-Specific duties and responsibilities 1.
  • Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
  • 2.
  • Assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of Boys Ranch clinical interventions for identified residents in accordance with appropriate therapeutic practices.
  • 3.
  • Collaborates with Boys Ranch staff to assess and refer residents for external contract services, medication reviews and POS design.
  • 4.
  • Attends and participates in weekly team meetings for assigned clients.
  • 5.
  • Attends and participates in Intensive Team Meetings and assists in developing team-centered approaches for residents who are struggling.
  • 6.
  • Assists in the design, facilitation and evaluation of therapeutic group processes.
  • 7.
  • Assists in the implementation and operation of the childcare program in accordance with the Cal Farley’s Model of Leadership and Service.
  • 8.
  • Provides crisis intervention for residents to include the use of approved verbal and physical intervention techniques and appropriate assessments regarding specific incidents of abuse or potential abuse involving residents.

  • Exhibits appropriate interaction with residents.
  • 10.
  • Assists in the coordination and facilitation of the “transfer of learning” as it relates to significant clinical issues affecting a child’s milieu.
