The Assistant Coach assists in directing all phases of a nationally competitive swimming program, focusing on recruiting, video exchange, individual instruction, and coordinating community involvement. Essential functions include organizing and supervising teaching sessions, assessing player skills, and ensuring compliance with institutional and conference regulations.
The Assistant Coach, Swimming is responsible for assisting in the direction of all phases of a nationally competitive program in accordance with Barry University, the Sunshine State Conference, and NCAA DII regulations. Specifically, duties include recruiting, handling video exchange, and individual instruction/player improvement, coordinating community involvement, completing/submitting administrative and compliance documents and other duties assigned by the head coach.
This is a 12-month position.
Assists the head coach with instructing/ teaching student-athletes in the rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport.
Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
Assists the head coach with supervising student-athletes during practices and competition.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
Teaches assigned fundamentals and skills during practice and games.
Assesses player’s skills and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
Models professional behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Recruits academically qualified student-athletes who form a competitive squad and meet established academic goals and objectives of the department.
Participates in community service activities.
Interacts with the Associate AD/ SWA, ICA Compliance Coordinator, Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success and Faculty Athletic Representative on all matters pertaining to eligibility.
Performs administrative functions in support of the Intercollegiate Athletic program:
Cooperates with the athletic administration in the implementation of department policies.
Assists in the direction of the program within the scope of the Intercollegiate Athletics program.
Maintains a representative level of performance in the conference that satisfies departmental goals and objectives.
Consults with the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance concerning institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations that will directly affect the program.
Maintains adequate records.
Assists in the Management of his/her budget and assists in developing fundraising efforts for his/her sport.
Works closely with Sport Performance, Marketing, Development, and Athletic Communications.
Manages student data, including admissions, financial aid, registration, and academic performance data. All such data are treated as confidential in accordance with federal, state and university regulations.
Updates and maintains information on the Compliance Assistant program, Salesforce, Workday, and the ACS Athletics program.
