Job description
- The University of Virginia’s College at Wise invites applicants for a Resident Counselor position.
- The Resident Counselor is a full-time, 12 month (year-round), resident licensed position within The Counseling Center.
- The Resident Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling.
- The Resident Counselor will: Submit necessary application and supporting materials to the Virginia Board of Counseling for Resident Licensure.
- Complete a 3400-hour residency in accordance with regulations set forth by the Virginia Board of Counseling.
- Participate in one-on-one supervision with the Director of Counseling each week.
- Pass the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination.
- Serve on the after-hours on-call rotation for crisis intervention for UVA Wise students.
- Attend weekly Counseling Center staff meetings.
- Provide psycho-educational, awareness, and prevention programs to the campus community.
- Provide counseling services to the student population, including: Assessments Clinical treatment Diagnosis, Treatment Planning, and Implementation Walk-in services Referral services to appropriate community resources for medication evaluations, specialty services, and/or private practitioners.
- Provide consultation and referral services to the staff/faculty population on an as needed basis.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Maintain membership(s) in appropriate professional organizations and associations as well as annual state licensure requirements.
- Maintain a positive relationship with local community agencies to promote and utilize referral resources.
- Function as a member of Student Affairs team in consultation, special projects, and daily interactions.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling.
