Summary
The Student Management Advisor facilitates student success by defining and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. Advisors build supportive and personalized relationships with students, manage their day to day expectations, and provide them with opportunities to stay connected to our online community.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Student Management Advisors are responsible for
- Student Enrollment, Growth and Development
- Reinforce student self-direction and self-sufficiency.
- Assist students in assessing their interests and abilities, making decisions, and developing short-term and long-term plans to meet their objectives.
- Discuss and clarify educational, career, and life goals to assist in the development of a meaningful educational plan.
- Accuracy and Availability
- Interpret university policies, procedures, and standards, and clarify requirements for both general education and their chosen academic major.
- Provide current, accurate, and timely information to students.
- Make advising conferences available to students each academic term in a format that is convenient to the student.
- Assessment, Referral, and Confidentiality
- Direct students with educational, career or personal concerns, or skill/learning deficiencies to the resources and programs available at the campus, when necessary.
- Evaluate and monitor student academic progress (SAP) and the impact on achievement of goals.
- Collect and distribute relevant data about student needs, preferences, aspirations, and performance for use in institutional decisions and policy.
Qualifications/Education
- Minimum of a B.A. degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related areas.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in student advising.
- Must have a strong commitment to education and have the counseling or coaching skills required to keep online students on track effectively.
- Work
- Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am-6pm and 12pm-9pm. Available to work alternate Saturdays.
