Job Summary

Kaiser Permanente nurses are guided by an integrated nursing model that places patients and families in the center. The Staff Registered Nurse (RN) II - Maternal Child Health practices professional nursing as defined by the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act and by organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. Provides nursing care to antepartum and postpartum women, infants, and families that may include, but not limited to perinatal educational services, postpartum home or virtual visits, lactation education, and support services.

Essential Responsibilities

Provides lactation consultation to members/families during scheduled medical office visits. Provide lactation support during postpartum virtual visits and serves as resource to Pediatric, OBGYN, and Internal Medicine clinicians and staff for breastfeeding questions and concerns. Educates and enrolls members in Remote Patient Monitoring program; Monitors and manages RPM alerts on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Performs in-person rounds at KP Core hospitals to review AWHONN Post Birth Warning Signs and documents member encounter. Provide breastfeeding assistance and education regarding diet and activity in the postpartum period. Communicates pertinent information to clinicians of both mother and baby; determines if either the mother or the baby is in need for further evaluation and schedules the member for consult. Assess babies at risk for jaundice or sepsis and alerts the clinician, as needed, ensuring the next day follow up in the office as per KP policy. Maintains CEUs and certification as Breastfeeding specialist and Childbirth Educator. Researches, designs, develops, implements, and conducts training program for obstetric members, clinicians and staff by teaching Breastfeeding classes. Monitors Lactation Advice Line and in-basket referrals - scheduling consult appointments and providing advice as needed. Facilitates events, prepares displays, and offers teaching materials and articles for International Breastfeeding week. Dispatches postpartum home or virtual visits and evaluates routes for cost effectiveness, as needed. Prepared to instruct patients on the use of medical equipment as necessary (SNS, Nipple shields, Breast pumps). Participates in and assists in maintaining various HEDIS measures and department monthly statistics. Participates in Unit Based Team projects. May perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience Minimum three (3) years in OB/GYN, Labor and Delivery, Perinatal Care, or Mother/Baby. Education Associates degree in Nursing. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration Registered Professional Nurse License (Georgia) required at hire Resolve Through Sharing Bereavement Training Certification within 12 months of hire Certified Lactation Counselor within 12 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications
