Job Title: Supplemental Instruction Leader (WS)

Classification: Student Employee (non-exempt)

Department Name: Academic Success Center

Length of Position: One semester

Contact Person/Supervisor: Assistant Director of Academic Support

Wage Range

$11.75-12.75/hr.

Full Role Hours: 8-10 hours per week

Description of the Position

  • (Purpose of the
  • Position): To equip students by facilitating the learning and understanding of course material by leading SI sessions. The SI Program is accredited [https://info.umkc.edu/si/accredited-programs/] through the International Center for Supplemental Instruction. SI Leaders receive the designation of being certified leaders. SI Leaders are eligible for OEP credit upon completion of three semesters as a leader.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and conduct SI sessions in order to best fit the needs of the students
  • Attend regular class sessions and thoroughly familiarize self with course material
  • Welcome feedback from staff and students in order to respond to the needs of the class
  • Attend biweekly staff meetings and meet with Academic Success Center staff for professional development
  • Encourage attendance and use of SI as a service to the student body
  • Act as student liaison for the Academic Success Center

Qualifications

  • (Education/Experience/Skills)
  • Complete course or course equivalent with a B plus or higher
  • Interest in helping other students learn
  • Possess good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with and an understanding of the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and identities
  • Must be able to work 10 hours a week during the semester
  • Must have at least one faculty recommendation from the department in question and one from a faculty or staff member of applicant's choice
  • Must be able to attend class for assigned course
