As a member of a three-person, multidisciplinary classroom team, the Assistant Teacher supports implementation of lessons and carries out curriculum instruction, tailored to meet students’ specific learning needs/behavioral profiles. The Assistant Teacher will actively participate in academic instruction and classroom management while learning and applying effective evidence-based behavior management techniques. The Assistant Teacher will participate in leading activities blocks (electives) and attend field trips. What’s in it for me?

Essential duties

• Implement unit and lesson plans following the students’ IEP goals and objectives with supervision by the lead Special Education Teacher.
• In conjunction with the classroom team (lead teacher and behavior support personnel), implement classroom behavior management plan appropriate to the age and social/emotional levels of students.
• Foster positive self-esteem and social growth of students through appropriate curriculum and behavioral structure.
• Create and maintain a respectful classroom culture that fosters safe and productive learning.

Qualifications

• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.

Experience

• Experience working with children/students with special needs, preferably in a classroom setting.
