About the role

The Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of scholars with disabilities and evaluates their progress against instructional objectives. They also coordinate the delivery of special education services and serve as the primary contact for parents.

We are looking for dynamic teachers for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year!

Ivy Prep Academy has an established culture of achievement whereby academic success is vital, and the development of a girl’s individual potential is central. All Ivy Prep scholars receive a personalized education plan that guides their journey to success. They are taught by highly effective teachers who understand how girls learn best, and how to inspire each scholar to reach their potential.

We go beyond math, science, and language arts. Our rigorous curriculum and after school activities expose scholars to a host of academic and social avenues, including college-career readiness tours, physical education, music, dance, step, cheerleading and more.

General Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Scholar Services, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of scholars with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses scholar progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned scholars.

Qualifications

  • Minimum B.A/B. S degree in teaching from an accredited institution in the appropriate special education area.
  • Current Georgia teaching license in required content area.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and specialty area.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of scholars with disabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations, and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
  • Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports.
  • Ability to effectively an analyze needs and problems objectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, scholars, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including the use of technology such as i-pads to individualize instruction.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with children with ADD and behavior and emotional disabilities.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each scholar’s IEP.
  • Assesses scholar progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable scholars to meet their IEP goals.
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for scholars to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with IEP team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each scholar's IEP.
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including i-pads.
  • Serves as primary contact for the parent.
  • Complies with Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Completes all network and state reporting requirements.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following

Establishes and maintains scholar control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities.

Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage scholar responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with network policies and procedures.

Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of scholars with disabilities.

Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution and a current Georgia teaching license in the required content area. They should possess thorough knowledge of special education principles and effective teaching methodologies for scholars with disabilities.
