  • About New Horizons New Horizons is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Our Youth Services team provides engaging and inclusive programming designed to foster social skills, independence, and community participation.
  • Position Overview New Horizons is seeking a motivated and energetic Summer Camp Counselor to support our Youth Services Summer Programming.
  • This is a great opportunity for students interested in human services, education, social work, or related fields.
  • The intern will assist in planning and facilitating activities, supporting participants, and ensuring a fun and inclusive experience for all.
  • This will include supporting a summer Youth Leadership Program (1-week) as well as Camp CapAbility (4-weeks)- an inclusive summer camp for students with disabilities.
  • Intern would need to be available from mid-June through August 1, 2025.
  • Key Responsibilities Assist with planning and running summer programming activities, including games, creative projects, pre-employment activities, site visits, and group discussions.
  • Provide hands-on support to the Youth Services team in facilitating an engaging and safe environment.
  • Help lead discussions and social activities designed to promote communication, teamwork, and workplace skill development.
  • Support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in participating in activities and engaging with peers.
  • Ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and general program logistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a community college or university program.
  • Interest in human services, education, social work, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in summer camps, education, recreational programs, or working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Energetic, patient, and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the internship.
