- About New Horizons New Horizons is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Our Youth Services team provides engaging and inclusive programming designed to foster social skills, independence, and community participation.
- Position Overview New Horizons is seeking a motivated and energetic Summer Camp Counselor to support our Youth Services Summer Programming.
- This is a great opportunity for students interested in human services, education, social work, or related fields.
- The intern will assist in planning and facilitating activities, supporting participants, and ensuring a fun and inclusive experience for all.
- This will include supporting a summer Youth Leadership Program (1-week) as well as Camp CapAbility (4-weeks)- an inclusive summer camp for students with disabilities.
- Intern would need to be available from mid-June through August 1, 2025.
- Key Responsibilities Assist with planning and running summer programming activities, including games, creative projects, pre-employment activities, site visits, and group discussions.
- Provide hands-on support to the Youth Services team in facilitating an engaging and safe environment.
- Help lead discussions and social activities designed to promote communication, teamwork, and workplace skill development.
- Support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in participating in activities and engaging with peers.
- Ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and general program logistics.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a community college or university program.
- Interest in human services, education, social work, or a related field.
- Previous experience in summer camps, education, recreational programs, or working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Energetic, patient, and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to commit to the full duration of the internship.
- Hands-on experience in a nonprofit setting.
