Scope of responsibilities
Southside Christian School has an opening for a junior varsity assistant volleyball coach. The ideal candidate will be able to teach/coach the sport and will be a follower of Christ. Applicants should have either prior experience as a volleyball coach at middle school, high school, or recreational level. The junior varsity assistant coach is responsible for the following:
General responsibilities/Essential functions
- taking ownership/stewardship of their facility to assure cleanliness, proper use, and a proper attitude toward the facility by student athletes using it under their supervision.
- collecting and inventorying uniforms at the end of the season.
- attending required in-service meetings each year.
- upholding and supporting the SCS school philosophy and athletic philosophy.
- knowing and enforcing the Athletic Handbook.
- completing the NFHS online courses required by the SCHSL before the first day of practice.
- completing the required CPR certification prior to the first day of practice. This is an SCHSL requirement.
- being aware of general SCHSL guidelines and those related to their sport.
- having the team in the strength training center.
- having a strong desire and ability to disciple young ladies.
- answers directly to the volleyball head coach.
Qualified applicants
- Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with an evangelical, protestant church of like faith and practice; and agree with the philosophies, Statement of Faith, and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School.
- Must be a spiritually mature, veteran Christian leader who agrees with the school's Mission, Vision, Values, Biblical Beliefs, Statement of Christian Life Commitment, and Statement of Faith.
- Must be a person with proven spiritual, moral, and leadership qualities, and be capable of developing a strong rapport with fellow coaches and student athletes and the SCS community.
- Experience in coaching volleyball preferred.
Physical requirements
- Coaches must be able to demonstrate techniques and skills of the sport.
- Coaches must be able to be physically active for extended periods, including standing, walking, and moving around the field or court.
- Coaches must be able to lift and carry equipment related to the sport.
- Coaches must be able to visually monitor athletes for their safety, which includes the ability to stand for long periods.
