Job description

FVI School of Nursing and Technology is seeking a Math Tutor to provide in-person academic support to prospective nursing students preparing for the TEAS Exam.

Schedule

  • Monday –
  • Thursday 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM (In-Person, On Campus) This role is focused on strengthening students’ foundational math skills, improving test readiness, and supporting successful entry into the nursing program.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-person tutoring sessions focused on TEAS math preparation
  • Break down math concepts into clear, practical, and easy-to-understand steps
  • Identify student skill gaps and provide targeted remediation strategies
  • Support students with practice problems, test-taking strategies, and time management techniques
  • Assist in building student confidence, particularly for those with math anxiety
  • Track student attendance and engagement (light documentation)
  • Collaborate with Academic Leadership and/or the Success Coach on student progress

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
  • Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience (academic or test prep preferred) Strong knowledge of basic math, including:
  • Fractions
  • Ratios and proportions
  • Percentages
  • Basic algebra
  • Word problems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with adult learners at varying skill levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preparing students for the TEAS exam
  • Experience working with nursing or allied health students
  • Background in developmental math or academic remediation
  • Familiarity with test-taking strategies and study skills coaching
  • Experience using learning platforms such as Canvas or Zoom Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Comfortable working with at-risk or academically underprepared students
  • Able to facilitate both group sessions and one-on-one support
