Job description

Overview Do you have a passion for working with children and creating memorable summer experiences? Join us as a Summer Camp Counselor at Hickory Foundation YMCA. In this role, under the supervision of the Summer Camp Head Counselor and in accordance with the North Carolina licensing guidelines, you will play a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive camp environment, guiding campers through exciting weekly themes filled with lessons and activities. The group leader responsibilities include curriculum coordination, program development and growth, quality assurance, and NC licensing compliance, contributing to a memorable and enriching experience aligned with the YMCA's commitment to youth development.

Responsibilities

Camp Activities and Supervision: Engage campers in a variety of age-appropriate and theme-related activities designed to enhance their skills, creativity, and teamwork. Ensure the safety and well-being of campers during all camp activities, outings, and free time. Team Collaboration and Guidance: Work collaboratively with fellow camp counselors, Head Counselors, and the Summer Camp Coordinator to ensure a cohesive and enriching camp experience. Provide support and positive guidance to campers, promoting a sense of belonging, confidence, and personal growth. Training and Administrative Responsibilities: Participate in the mandatory training week during the week of May 20th to prepare for the upcoming camp season. Embrace and coordinate weekly camp themes, creating an immersive experience for campers with corresponding lessons and activities. Be adaptable and open to adjusting activities based on the needs and interests of campers, ensuring a dynamic and engaging camp environment. Assist in administrative duties such as attendance tracking, camper registrations, and documentation of daily activities. Additional Responsibilities: Retaining a personal commitment to YMCA philosophy and the ability to implement values and education as role models. Assuring the health, safety, and welfare of the children in accordance with the YMCA of Catawba Valley policies and procedures. Record keeping: attendance, lesson plans, curriculum, equipment inventory. Facility cleanliness: bathrooms, cafeteria, gym, and other program areas. Work effectively with all staff and supervisors. Building and maintaining positive relationships with students and parents. Understanding and adhering to NC childcare regulations. All YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment. This includes following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.

Qualifications
