About the role

The Behavioral Aide is responsible for on-site coordination of active treatment at our Valor Place (open-residential) program in Detroit, Michigan. Youth may have behavioral challenges and may have been discharged from a psychiatric placement and/or are at risk for psychiatric hospitalization; oftentimes, the child is stepping down to a less restrictive environment. Behavior Aides work independently on assigned shifts, providing behavioral support services through mentoring, day respite, supervising parent visitation, filing, calling providers, completing paperwork, and completing all other duties assigned.

Services we provide

Spectrum Child and Family Services supports our community’s children and teens who are delinquent, have been neglected/abused or abandoned, are medically fragile, have dual-diagnoses, and behavioral or emotional impaired conditions, or may have physical or other health challenges. Our programs support a population with constantly changing needs, and our goal is to strengthen and empower the families so they become self-sufficient, stable, and competent.

Qualifications

  • Education: A high school diploma is required, and an associate’s degree in human services is preferred.
  • Experience: Have the capacity to implement treatment plans, goals, and behavioral interventions as established by the treatment team.
  • Experience in professional-level communication, both verbal and written, and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • An understanding and experience in behavioral principles and their application in working with children with behavioral challenges in a community setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing program support services to SED children in a respectful and supportive manner.
