Job description

  • We are seeking a Korean-speaking Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our Meaningful Day Services team.
  • This role is ideal for someone who values inclusion, community engagement, and culturally responsive support.
  • As a DSP in Meaningful Day Services, you will support adults with IDD in community-based activities, skill-building, and social connections that align with their interests, goals, and cultural background.
  • Your Korean language skills will help ensure participants and families feel understood, respected, and supported.

Essential Job Functions/Job Roles

  • Be an advocate for the person(s) supported as well as empower them to advocate for their own selves in pursuing their life goals and dreams.
  • Assist people supported in finding meaningful employment and to assist them with job readiness skills, interview techniques, resume writing, and other related employment skills.
  • Support participants in making choices and becoming involved members of their community in ways of their choosing, such as getting to know neighbors and participating in neighborhood functions and becoming involved in places of worship, maintaining social contact with friends and family.
  • Be a mentor by teaching, guiding and assisting them with learning how to access their community which may include riding public transportation to and from activities in the community.
  • Facilitate meaningful activities such as volunteering, recreation, employment exploration, and cultural engagement
  • Communicate effectively with participants, families, and team members in Korean and English
  • Promote choice, self-advocacy, and dignity in all services
  • Document daily activities and progress in accordance with program and DDA requirements
  • Ensure participant health, safety, and well-being at all times

Desired Attributes and Skills

Friendly, patient, reliable, nurturing, good interpersonal skills, good communication skills. Good listeners who often ask open-ended questions to guide clients in the right direction, rather than simply telling them what to do., Confidentiality, empathy and the ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude while offering support are all important attributes.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED, functional reading and writing skills, fluency in Korean and conversational English (required.) Prior experience with helping people with disabilities preferred (training provided). Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and own a reliable vehicle for providing transportation as needed to and from the job site and or other meaningful community activities. Must pass background check requirements. Must have CPR/First Aid and Medication Technician certification or otherwise obtain certifications within first 30 days of hire.

Physical Demands

Personal Assistants must be able to stand, walk, sit, hear and talk. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
