About the role

The Migrant Education Recruiter is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and enrolling eligible migrant children and youth into the program. They also provide instructional support and act as an advocate for students by coordinating with schools, families, and social service agencies.

Position Details

We are looking for a Migrant Education Recruiter to work up to 20 hours per week in the Charleroi, PA area. Candidate will need to have flexible availability as the schedule will be based on the needs of the students and families that we serve. This will include weekend and evening hours. Hourly rate for this position is $22.57.

Position Summary

  • The Migrant Education Recruiter is responsible for the identification, recruitment, enrollment of eligible migrant children and out of school youth in accordance with the Migrant Education state and local site recruitment plan. They will also work with schools and service agencies to advocate and assist all students in developing self-concepts, educational competencies, etc. to become responsible and productive members of the society. This is a grant funded position. Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Bilingual, in Spanish or Creole preferred
  • Must hold a valid driver's license in the individual's state of residence Qualifications Desired:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, or related area
  • Experience with accessing regional support services - 1-3 years of previous experience as a teacher or caseworker or other experience involving the direct services to children and young adults
  • Working knowledge of Migrant Education Program and services Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a working knowledge of guidelines, regulations, and procedures relevant to the Migrant Education Program
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of educational initiatives, developmentally-appropriate programs, government, and social services which are available for migrant students, and multicultural awareness issues, as appropriate
  • Provide instructional support and intervention for students through their schools, homes, and appropriate service agencies and Out of School Youth (10% or less of job responsibilities)
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with appropriate stakeholders, funding agents, and IU5 staff
  • Act as an advocate for the Migrant Education Program and migrant students by explaining the components of the program to parents, schools, government, social service agencies, and other appropriate community agencies
  • Maintain all required and appropriate records and necessary documentation accurately
  • Interpret and translate (oral or written) for parents, staff, and school personnel as a supplemental service as needed
  • Attend required state and local trainings and meetings
  • Maintain effective communications with and provide regular program updates to the Supervisor Migrant Education and Recruitment Coordinator of School Improvement Services - Federal and State Programs

  • Build collaborative relationships Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. Incumbent must be able to sit at desk for extended periods of time. This role routinely uses standard office equipment with a vast majority of the time utilizing computers to complete daily tasks. Due to travel outside of the home office, candidates are required to have a vehicle and valid driver's license to attend job related duties, meetings, seminars, and trainings. Physical Demands: (% of time) Standing: Occasionally (<20%) Sitting: Frequently (>80%) Lifting: 0-20lbs. Occasionally (<20%); 20-50 lbs. Occasionally (<20%); Over 50 lbs. Rarely Travel: Frequently (<80%) Pushing/Pulling: Occasionally (<20%) Manual Keying/Data Entry: Often (30-60%) Note: Position will remain open for applications until it has been filled.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid driver's license. A bachelor's degree in education and 1-3 years of experience in teaching or casework are desired, along with bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Creole.
