- Overview: Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Employment Specialist will support individuals enrolled in the Pathway to Employment program. This program is designed to help participants explore career interests, develop vocational skills, and achieve competitive employment outcomes. The Employment Specialist will work directly with individuals in community-based settings to provide career exploration, job readiness training, and individualized employment planning and supports.
- Key
- Responsibilities: Conduct vocational assessments and interest inventories to identify career goals and skill development needs. Develop and implement individualized Pathway to Employment plans. Provide hands-on training in workplace readiness, interviewing, communication, and job-seeking skills. Arrange and support community-based experiences such as job shadows, tours, and volunteer placements. Collaborate with employers, families, and support teams to identify opportunities and ensure successful outcomes. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with OPWDD and agency standards. Promote inclusion, independence, and self-determination for all program participants.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, Psychology, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience). 2 years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and/or providing employment services preferred (Required) Knowledge of OPWDD’s Employment and Pathway to Employment programs a plus. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.
