Position Summary
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for implementing and monitoring individualized Staff Action Plans, in compliance with state, federal, and agency regulations and operating standards. The DSP works directly with individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other intellectual/developmental disabilities providing habilitative (skill building) and behavioral support. The DSP will work to increase skill level and support positive behavioral interactions through goals identified in the individualized plan. The DSP will provide services within the person’s home and in their community to promote independence, inclusion, and quality of life. This is a Home and Community Based Service that supports specific learning and growth objectives for individuals receiving services.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred. Travel and transportation is required. Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and require reliable transportation. This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities). An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
