Job description
Under the direction of the Resident Life Coordinator, this seasonal residential position works with all youth programs to provide quality experiences. Youth Program Specialists will be involved in the daily and/or overnight supervision and education for all camp run residential programs These programs may include specialty camps, after school programs, outdoor science school, and enrichment youth programs.
Salary Range
$750 - $825/week
Essential functions
- Upholds the rules, policies, code of conduct and traditions of YMC Camp Campbell.
- Serve as a good role model in personal language, appearance, communication skills, and health habits to volunteers and participants.
- Supervise children at all time; lives in a cabin with participants as assigned.
- Communicate proactively with staff to ensure the best possible experience for all participants.
- Ensure that all actives are safe, fun and age appropriate.
- Redirect participants' behavior positively and effectively.
- Attend all mandatory trainings, workshops and staff meetings.
- Conduct all assigned tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
- Host and supervise large group programming.
- Ability to adapt to all activities to meet the physical and behavioral needs of all students.
- Exemplify and monitor good stewardship of facilities.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Work environment & physical demands
The physical demands of the position include
- Visual and auditory ability to observe and to responds to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Model the values of YMCA of Silicon Valley and the individual worth of children.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, teachers, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
- CPR and First Aid certified (can be obtained upon hire).
- Must have good decision making skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Experience planning and facilitating large group programming.
- Must have general knowledge of needs and behavior of school age children.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Completion of Child Abuse Prevention Course is required within 60 days of hire.
- Proof of medical/TB exam completed within 3 days of hire.
