About the role

The practitioner provides home-based parenting education and support to families referred by the Department of Child Safety using the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum. They are responsible for coordinating care, assessing family needs, and maintaining detailed documentation of progress and communication.

Nurturing Parenting Practitioner

Family Consultants in the Nurturing Parenting Program provide home-based and community-based services in Maricopa and Pinal Counties to families referred by the Department of Child Safety (DCS). Our consultants work with these families to promote positive parenting ideas and techniques.

*Bilingual (Spanish-English) highly preferred*

Responsibilities

  • Meets with parents and children, in the home or community, once a week to provide parenting education, parent-child observation during activities, and debriefing.
  • Coordinates care with Department of Child Safety and other involved services.
  • Connects families with needed resources.
  • Provides direct service to program participants using the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum. Administer, score, and interpret the assessment tools included in the curriculum.
  • Prepare the Family Nurturing Plan (FNP) with the family and provide parent education based on FNP.
  • Communicate regularly with other team members and outside agencies regarding participant needs and progress in order to ensure coordinated services best meet the family’s needs.
  • Document and report findings and progress back to JFCS team and DCS.
  • Complete weekly reports and closing summaries.
  • Attend training provided by DCS to learn implementation and practice of the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum.

The ideal candidate will have

Ability to adjust schedule to the needs of the client, which may include working some evenings and weekends.

Working knowledge of child welfare system.

Familiarity with skill-building and psycho-educational work.

Ability to complete all appropriate documentation of any communication with and regarding the family in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in human services or related field OR two (2) years' related work experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English); salary differential offered.
  • Social service work experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the child welfare system strongly preferred.
  • Experience doing skill building and psycho-educational work strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with children and families strongly preferred.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card without restriction(s).
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License required.
  • Active / Valid Arizona Auto Insurance with appropriate liability limits to meet contractual obligations.
  • MVR Report that meets JFCS criteria for driving positions. MVR report is obtained prior to employment and bi-annually during employment.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.

Requirements

Candidates must possess an Associate Degree in human services or two years of related experience, along with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. The role requires the ability to pass background checks and drug screens, with a strong preference for bilingual Spanish-English speakers.
