- Range: $17.00 - $20.00 HourlyThis position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The STEM Program Instructor at The YMCA of the Jersey Shore intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the direct supervision of the Sports & Enrichment Director, the STEM Program Instructor will carry out the assigned program curriculum. The YMCA is seeking an engaging and knowledgeable STEM Instructor to lead hands-on learning experiences for youth. In this role, you will design and deliver fun, interactive lessons in science, technology, engineering, and math that inspire curiosity and build problem-solving skills. Responsibilities include preparing lesson materials, guiding group activities, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment. Ideal candidates have experience working with children, a background or strong interest in STEM fields, and the ability to communicate concepts in an accessible, enthusiastic way. Flexible scheduling and a passion for youth development are essential. Must always be on time and ready for your scheduled shift, which includes but is not limited to adhering to the established branch and department dress code. Demonstrate YMCA core character values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring in all interactions with employees, members, staff and others. Leads participants through the intended group program curriculum. Monitors participants activity to ensure all are participating, being treated fairly and provided with equal opportunities. Proactively adjust and engage those who are not actively participating. Interacts with participants and parents in a positive manner. Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report to supervisor in writing any problems. Responsible for filling out accident/incident reports and getting these reports to the Sports & Enrichment Director. Additionally, immediately report any unsafe or suspicious activity directly to Regional Youth & Sports Director or Director on Duty. Qualifications Minimum 17 years old, 18 years of age or older preferred High school education/GED equivalent Previous experience working with youth Ability to communicate with youth and adults First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Online Training Blood borne Pathogen Online Training Notify Wellness Director within 60 days before First Aid, CPR/AED expiration date. The YMCA provides First Aid, CPR/AED recertification classes.
