Job description
Position Summary
The Assistant Professor will provide expertise in surgical technology curricular knowledge. The individual will be focused on learning and pedagogical flexibility. Individuals should be experienced in the use of diverse up-to-date equipment and instrumentation. Individuals should be self-directed, compassionate, and patient, and exhibit superior communication skills. The instructional staff will be responsible for providing didactic content, evaluating students, reporting progress, and for the periodic review and updating of course material. Position responsibilities: Maintain program specific policies for the program that meet accreditation standards Demonstrate proficiency in instruction, and evaluate students as needed Assist in recruitment, advisement and registration of students Prepare course schedules each semester and update syllabi annually Coordinate syllabi, course content, and collect IE data for all assigned courses. Assist in the adoption of textbooks each semester to be approved by Dean Manage classrooms, labs, and facilities to ensure students’ learning needs are met Promote the programs through participation in area and community events as well as press releases Develop the curriculum and continue curriculum revisions of the programs so student training and skill development meets employer need Actively participate in related consortia, partnerships, organizations, etc. Support the philosophy and mission of the College Administers daily operations to include policy adherence and regulatory compliance to CAAHEP rules and regulations Conduct all aspects of annual department Institutional Effectiveness (assessment, planning, data collection, analysis, reflection, evaluation, new plan and all documentation) Provide reports such as Technical Review, Gainful Employment, SACSCOC, etc. on time Serve on college committees as assigned and recommend department faculty for committees Perform other functions consistent with a director’s responsibilities when requested by Administration Problem-solving and resolution for student issues/complaints Serves as a resource to faculty and other College staff Ability to promote an effective environment for learning in lecture and lab experiences Perform all other duties as assigned |

- Requirements: Faculty/instructional staff must be effective in teaching and knowledgeable in subject matter as documented by appropriate professional credential(s)/certification(s), education, and experience in the designated content area. Faculty with instructional responsibilities in core surgical technology courses must: 1) Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency; and 2) Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA); and 3) Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years. Must maintain certification in surgical technology throughout employment Demonstrate proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work in a typical classroom/instructional lab environment and get along courteously and professionally with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. Ability to handle high levels of stress.

- Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment. No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

- Benefits: 36-hour work week for a healthy work life balance as well generous paid leave time. Health, life, and income protection insurance are provided. An excellent retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan ‘ORP’ for full time faculty. Full Time employees have free use of the college’s recreational/fitness facilities Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependent children. Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience starts at $56,069 for an Associate’s degree. Overload is paid separately. Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.
