The Teacher II is responsible for managing the classroom environment, implementing curriculum, and ensuring the safety and educational development of children. They also conduct assessments, facilitate parent conferences, and supervise teacher assistants to maintain high-quality care standards.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education and possess at least one year of preschool teaching experience. A current Child Development Teacher Permit is required or must be obtained within six months of employment.
Plan and set up classroom environment according to Environmental Rating Scales and program curriculum, document on-going observation and assessments, including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), progress notes, and portfolio samples for the purpose of individualizing for each enrolled child. Develop and implement daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children. Providing a high-quality teacher child interactions (CLASS), nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that supports children learning. Ensure active supervision of all children by all staff in the classroom, which includes accounting for the children by consistently counting them throughout the day. Help keep center orderly by sharing cleaning responsibilities and duties. Review and plans classroom experiences and routines with teacher assistant. Responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, meeting program deadlines, submitting monthly paperwork and reports, and conducting and documenting scheduled home visits and parent conferences with enrolled families. Attend and prepare all requested documentation for IEP meetings, transition meetings, parent conferences and case conferences. Ensure a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child's sense of trust, independence and competence is created in the classroom environment. Supervise and evaluates teacher assistants, works with parents in planning activities to meet the individual needs of their child and supports volunteer efforts by helping parents and others feel comfortable and valued when assisting in the classroom. Ensure the safety and security of all children by maintaining visual supervision and an accurate census of children producible on demand and verifiable by count when requested by management, parents, or regulatory agencies. Provide support to families through needs assessments, scheduled home visits and parent/teacher conferences. Participate in case conferencing to develop a team approach in providing services to preschool children and their families. Participate in Practice Based Coaching and professional development. Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as directed. Perform other duties as required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited institution of higher education; AND One-year work/volunteer pre-school teaching experience; AND Current Child Development Teacher Permit or obtain within 6 months of employment and keep current by completing 25 hours of professional growth hours, annually. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s). Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours. Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include: Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI), National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), and the California Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR) (Megan's Law). Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License. Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer. Health examination with tuberculin clearance. AND contingent on employment candidate will be required to provide documentation of your Measles, and Pertussis immunizations. Influenza immunization highly preferred. Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
