About the role

Implement the YES USA curriculum to deliver engaging English lessons to international students aged 12-20. Responsibilities include supervising student welfare, maintaining attendance records, and submitting weekly progress evaluations.

St. John’s University (Queens Campus) Classes are mornings from 9

  • 30am-12:45pm (15-minute break), and an additional session on
  • Friday afternoons from 2:30-5:45pm. 60 hours / 4-week contracts are available:
  • Week 1:
  • July 22-24th (24th is a double session)
  • Week 2:
  • July 27th-31st (31st is a double session)
  • Week 3:
  • August 5th-7th (7th is a double session)
  • Week 4: August 10th-14th (14th is a double session)
  • OR 30 hours / 2-week contracts are available:
  • Week 1:
  • July 22-24th (24th is a double session)

Job Description

As an ESL teacher for YES USA, you'll implement our curriculum to deliver effective, dynamic, and engaging lessons for international students from 12-20 years old, while evaluating their progress weekly. Your key tasks will consist of, but not be limited to: Student Supervision: Act in loco parentis to ensure and maintain student discipline, welfare, safety, and security at all times. Ensure that students adhere to the YES USA Student Code of Conduct. Inform management immediately of any issues and initiate appropriate disciplinary actions. Academic Duties: Following the YES USA curriculum, prepare for and deliver high-quality and effective English lessons; adapt and supplement whenever needed. Be prepared to teach unplugged in case of any issues with the classroom, technology, materials, or the like.

Administrative

Maintain up-to-date records of student attendance. Monitor student performance and evaluate their progress throughout the course. Prepare and submit weekly evaluation reports in a timely manner. Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings and professional development workshops. Regularly take pictures of students and upload them to a designated folder or post them on social media. Help prepare and co-lead student end-of-course ceremonies.

Requirements

All applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in TESOL. CELTA certificate or its equivalent. Prior ESL experience of teaching teenagers. Effective written and oral communication skills. Legal authorization to work in the United States.

USA will: Complete a reference check (names and contact details of three references are required). Run a background check.

Upon signing a job offer, successful candidates will be required to: Submit a copy of your diploma(s) and certificates along with other new hire paperwork. Attend orientation training courses prior to employment. Hours and Compensation Every two weeks is 30 hours of instruction. There may be opportunities to pick up extra hours. Pay is $20-27/hour
