About the role

The Certified Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive sports medicine services, including injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and event coverage for student-athletes. They are also responsible for maintaining medical documentation, managing training room supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Full-Time – 10 months salaried role, full benefits through the entire year, paid CEU’s, $35-$40 per hour

Location – Newport-Mesa Unified School District School Setting

Reporting to the Director of Athletic Training & Sports Medicine, the Full-Time Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for aiding and representing the Newport Orthopedic Institute Human Performance and Sports Medicine Program (HPSM).

The ATC position will primarily be a full-time 10-month role within NMUSD.

Year-round opportunities may be discussed during the interview.

The ATC will use their skills and knowledge to work hands on with various athletic teams within NMUSD.

The Individual must possess the ability to work independently, perform multiple tasks, work as a team to accomplish practice goals, and maintain strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities will include providing athletic training services for NMUSD
  • Keep athletic training space and clinical areas safe, clean, and organized
  • Understand the referral protocol to providers when injuries to athletes, staff, or anyone else involved at the athletic events being covered by the certified athletic trainer
  • Responsible for budget, inventory, and required materials to supply and operate the training room
  • Responsible for primary and secondary survey or evaluation of all athletic-related injuries
  • Responsible for all medical documentation of student athletic-related injuries
  • Maintain confidentiality of documentation
  • ATC is required to arrive before, be present, and remain after the game/event as appropriate; responsible for game and event preparation of student-athletes; responsible for game and event medical coverage of student-athletes as scheduled with the Athletic Director
  • Responsible for counseling athletes through athletic related injuries, assessments, rehabilitation and return to play protocols
  • Understand concussion care program and application and use of ImPACT for baseline and post-concussion protocols (including Return to Learn and Return to Play Protocols) with physicians
  • Help organize pre- and post-participation physicals
  • Supervise student athletic trainers, aides, and volunteers
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, other team personnel, community and administrative leadership
  • Provides athletes and community education in the areas of sports injury prevention and care
  • HIPAA/OSHA compliant
  • Adhere to the Standing Orders, as outlined by NOI Physicians
  • Present themselves in a professional manner supporting the NOI brand
  • Able to work independently, make decisions and communicate with managers, administrators and staff effectively and professionally

Typical Physical Demands

While performing the duties, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods of time

This position requires the ability to walk for long distances at large venue sites, occasionally run for shorter distances to get quickly to the site of an injured athlete, and frequent bending and twisting.

Duties will involve moving materials/objects up to 20 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, as well as assisting an injured athlete

Manual dexterity and coordination using one or both hands are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines

Work Conditions

This is a fast-paced orthopedic medical practice that offers outreach athletic training services.

Hours for this position vary from nights, early morning, and weekends, with the possibility for overtime.

The athletic trainer must be able to adjust and adapt to changing conditions.

Busy work environment with numerous interruptions.

Work hours may vary in order to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and/or team schedules.

Exposure to possible disagreeable conditions due to outdoor weather extremes.

May be requested to travel with athletic teams.

Additional

  • Hours spent in athletic training setting/event coverage will be determined depending upon contracts the certified athletic trainer is assigned to. Weekly schedule will be determined and prioritized by the Athletic Director
  • Modified work schedules may be required and travel may be a regular part of the position
  • The position is salaried and based on a flexible 40-hour work week, depending on the needs of NMUSD
  • The position will be seasonal or based on a 10-month contract
  • Pay rate is salaried and will range from $35-$40 per hour

Requirements

Candidates must be board-certified athletic trainers capable of working independently in a fast-paced school environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate with coaches, physicians, and administrative staff are required.
