- SUMMARY: Under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Youth & Enrichment Program Lead Instructor is responsible for the planning and organization of all aspects of the assigned programs they teach. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma and a minimum of a 2-year degree in Early Childhood, Recreation, Theater/Arts or related field or a vast amount of experience in the early childhood, recreation field. CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire or receive within 90 days of hire. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OR TRAITS Possess a basic knowledge of Park District policies concerning the assigned programming A sense of loyalty to the Park District and the assigned programs Direct the classroom activities in a positive manner Ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions Ability to work harmoniously with all employees in all departments within the Park District Demonstrate a positive and cheerful attitude when working with the children and parents Ability to work with a good attitude towards coworkers Ability to be self-motivated to accomplish the assigned program goals and objectives Ability to accept the responsibility to be punctual and practice good attendance Ability to accept constructive criticism or supervision DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in cleaning and setting up the classroom before each program Assist in cleaning and setting up the classroom after each program Assist in record keeping Attendance sheets Individual student records
- Develop a weekly lesson plan to cover the following areas: Gross and fine motor skills Art and music projects Free time Language development Socialization skills Prepare daily routine for the students Keep informed on current teaching trends and incorporate them into the program Attend seasonal staff meetings Write and submit any correspondence that will be distributed to parents, i.e. newsletters, etc. Assist with maintaining supplies and equipment so they remain in a safe and workable condition Guide support staff in areas in which they require extra assistance Maintain an open parent/instructor relationship by instituting an open door policy Immediately report any and all major incidents to the Recreation Supervisor PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS While performing the duties of this position, the Youth & Enrichment Program Instructor may be exposed to work-related stress and pressure in the following areas: Responsibility for the timely, effective, and efficient delivery of assigned programs Resolving conflicts or addressing concerns involving participants, parents, and staff Managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee must meet the following physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation: Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time Ability to lift and carry equipment or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds independently Exposure to indoor environments and outdoor conditions during program activities COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS The employee must possess the following cognitive abilities, with or without reasonable accommodation: Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Strong time management and organizational skills Ability to remain calm and make rational decisions in high-pressure or emergency situations Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in interactions with participants, staff, and the public Strong awareness of safety procedures and the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to potential hazards Part-Time Benefit List Personal leave Free individual La Grange Fitness membership Discounted District programs This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and effects of working conditions associated with the job.
