About the role

The Recreation Aide assists in facilitating various recreational, educational, and social activities for residents in supportive housing. They are also responsible for monitoring client progress, maintaining facility equipment, and performing onsite outreach to encourage program participation.

CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families live in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

Clarkson Estates will provide supportive housing to 59 formerly homeless families, 35 formerly homeless young adults, 35 youth aging out of foster care, and 35 formerly incarcerated individuals. Programming will focus on economic development and workforce training, youth development and violence prevention, adult education and financial literacy, recreation, and health and wellness.

Position: Recreation Aide

Reports To: Recreational Coordinator

Location: 329 Clarkson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226

What The Recreation Aide Does

Assist with the teaching of physical education, arts and crafts, performing arts, music, sports, ADL & other recreational activities. (i.e., emergency services)

Help plan, coordinate and facilitate social and/or peer support events for clients; Organize, and co-facilitate group community activities.

Assist with the design and production of aesthetic visuals for public spaces of the shelter which reflect cultural, seasonal and programmatic themes.

Communicate effectively with clients, CAMBA staff, community members, donors and with funders; receive/relay phone calls/messages in a timely manner.

Track and keep records of community donations and supplies used.

Ensure that recreation facilities and equipment are used properly.

Monitor clients' progress, create tracker logs and document via progress notes; input client data/ client progress information into automated database. (CARES system)

Market the program(s); prepare marketing materials for program(s); conduct onsite outreach to encourage client participation.

Compile and provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.

Minimum Education/Experience Required

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. and/or equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

  • Must sign NYC DOH/MH attestation stating that candidate has not been subject of a founded child abuse report.
  • Must be/become First Aid/CPR certified.
  • Must be/become certified in overdose prevention.

Compensation

$42,442.40 annually When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
