Positions start as early as August 3, 2026 until full. Anticipated end date is either April 30, 2027 or May 7, 2027.

Benefits

GET PAID up to $10,125 (called a living allowance - LA) and serve approx. 20 hours afterschool each week. RECEIVE TRAINING through Emerald Youth University and participate in fun, team-building activities. EARN A SCHOLARSHIP OF up to $1,956 (called an education award - EA) to pay tuition or student loans. ADD VALUABLE SERVICE EXPERIENCE to your resume.

Positions

  • Three kinds of AmeriCorps positions are available afterschool with Emerald Youth this upcoming school year.
  • Ideal availability is between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00 p.m., Monday –
  • Friday: General Afterschool Role - Lead varying structured learning and enrichment activities afterschool with elementary and/or middle school students. (20 hours/week, LA = $10,125, EA = $1,956; or, 15 hours/week, LA = $6,750, EA = $1,565) Learning Role - Perfect for aspiring teachers and/or to fulfill a teaching practicum. Facilitate components of and implement incentives for elementary and middle school students as part of the on-site afterschool computer learning lab. (20 hours/week, LA = $10,125, EA = $1,956) RecSports Role - Perfect for those interested in sports, health, and fitness. Plan and implement structured health and recreational activities for both elementary and middle school students as part of the afterschool program. (15 hours/week, LA = $4,500, EA = $1,565)

NOTE

Semester only options may be available as well. If your schedule only allows one semester, please mention this when contacted by HR for a phone screen.

Important

Due to the timing of AmeriCorps funding for the 26/27 project year, candidates selected and available to start on time (early August) for these positions would begin as hourly paid ($14/hour) employees and and then change over formally to the title of AmeriCorps and begin receiving all applicable benefits mentioned above around August 17th once AmeriCorps funding is officially awarded. The hourly rate will cease once the change from employee to AmeriCorps happens.

Every year, Emerald Youth serves more than 3,000 children, teens, and young adults in the heart of Knoxville through faith, learning, and health programs. Emerald Youth's AmeriCorps members serve in the afterschool and summer programs of JustLead.
